VPN film awards

On October 19, the All American High School Film Festival held its annual award show, where students across the nation submitted over 2,500 videos and two Johansen VPN students, Dahlia Lucero and Breyden Horstman, became two of the 1st place winners! The students won 1st place in ‘Best Video Podcast’ and ‘Best Broadcast Journalism - Feature Story’ respectively.

Dahlia Lucero said, "I'm over the moon to have had the opportunity to showcase my video arts work through VPN and to receive this national award! I'm thrilled to highlight our video arts program by telling a local story that made such an impact in the nation. When making this video I wanted to honor Laci's story to our community, in doing so I created an award-winning video for a national film festival. Let's Go! I'm humbled and very appreciative to receive this award and I hope to continue doing big things here at VPN!"

Breyden Horstman remarked, “I had the amazing opportunity with over 40 MCS students to document several Historically Black Colleges and Universities while traveling through Alabama and Georgia and on the east coast. The video, for me, represents what videography is all about: sharing the stories that happen within our communities that we often don’t hear about or see. I am extremely grateful for my HBCU tour video winning at All American, and I can’t wait for the videos I make in the future.”
