Congratulations to Rosa Chavez, for winning the California State FFA Proficiency Award for Specialty Crop Production. Rosa is a senior at Johansen. Rosa Chavez was the student lead of the cut flower farm on the Johansen school campus. Rosa helped design the garden layout, was responsible for pre-sprouting and transplanting the flower plants and maintained the gardens throughout their growing season and harvested around 500 flowers. The cut flowers were given back to the Johansen Floral Program where students practiced design skills. Awesome job Rosa!

Downey's construction class held a Construction Education Showcase today to demonstrate their pathway in action. In attendance were trades union reps, industry professionals, local employers, MCS officials and local dignitaries. While students demonstrated skills they've learned, attendees were able to ask questions and provide students with information about regional employment opportunities or apprenticeships.

Congratulations to our most recent MCS Heroes! During our Board of Education meeting on Monday, we celebrated four dedicated MCS employees as MCS Heroes. Nominated by Senior Director of Educational Options, Rachelle Barkus: Career Technical Coordinator (CTE) Sharyl Limbaugh, CTE Analyst I Carol Serpa, CTE Promotion Technician Tasha Hutton and CTE Specialist Sarah Gordin were nominated as MCS Heroes. On January 19, 2023 in partnership with Modesto Chamber of Commerce, Modesto City Schools held the first, "Inspire Youth, Inspire Dreams" event showcasing our Career Technical Education programs to over 4,000 eighth grade students and the community at-large. The team worked behind the scenes with logistical planning, filling SWAG bags, ordering banners, and updating lesson plans to ensure the event went off without a hitch. The inaugural "Inspire Youth, Inspire Dreams" event was a success because of the hard work, service, and dedication of this team. Their initiative and the quality of work they exhibited through planning and execution overall should be commended. They truly are MCS Heroes! Congratulations!!! 👏
